Using Social Bookmarking & Social Content Sites For Promotion
written by Keith James LockUsing Social Bookmarking and Social Content sites is an excellent way to get free traffic to your web site or blog.
I like to include my content manually and use different information when submitting. If you decide to bookmark your best content slowly and manually then you probably want to sort through the vast majority of bookmarking and content sites and just settle with a few.
Here's the list of Social Bookmarking sites that I currently use: (for a complete, categorized list click here)
Social Content sites are pretty much the same thing as Social Bookmarking sites except that you can usually have your "story" rated or voted on. Examples of Social Content sites that I submit my best content to are:
- Digg
- BloggingZoom
- Sphinn (marketing related content)
- PlugIM (marketing related content)
I also like to submit my content to StumbleUpon. It's similar to Social Bookmarking but is classified by Wikipedia as a "web site ranking and discovery" tool. After your content has been included at StumbleUpon it will be viewed by internet channel surfers using the StumbleUpon toolbar.
When submitting video content, you can use StumbleVideo which works in the same fashion as StumbleUpon.
Here are a couple of tools that will post your bookmarks to multiple sites at one time if that's the route you want to go.
Lastly, encourage bookmarking of your blog posts by using a tool that generates links to popular bookmarking sites under each post. There are plenty of them available. I personally use a free tool from FeedBurner to accomplish this.
